Feeding your Ragdoll kitten the right diet from the start sets the foundation for a healthy, happy life. At AquaMarine Kittens, we raise our kittens on a combination of raw and dry food, but our main focus is raw feeding because of the amazing health benefits it provides. Every meal we prepare is carefully balanced and made right here at home with love and knowledge.

Whether you plan to continue raw feeding or prefer a more traditional approach, this guide will help you understand your options and give your kitten the healthiest start possible.

🥩 Why We Feed Raw – And Why It Works

Raw feeding is the most natural and biologically appropriate way to feed your cat. It mimics what felines would eat in the wild and supports their natural carnivore needs. We make our raw meals at home using:

  • High-quality muscle meat

  • Raw organs (like liver and kidney)

  • Ground bones for calcium

  • Taurine, omega-3s, and essential vitamins/minerals

This balanced diet promotes:

  • Shiny, soft coats

  • Smaller, less smelly stools

  • Better dental health

  • Higher energy and cleaner digestion

  • Stronger immunity and fewer vet visits overall

Many of our families worry about starting raw at home—and that’s totally understandable. If you're a beginner, we recommend:

  1. Pre-made raw meals – Sold by reputable raw pet food companies, ready to thaw and serve.

  2. Raw food supplements – Add to your own meat at home to make a complete meal (brands like EZComplete or Alnutrin are great starters).

Even if you can’t commit to a full raw diet, adding raw once a week or every other week still gives benefits! A small amount of fresh, unprocessed food is better than none. Even a biweekly raw meal can support better digestion and help reduce the dry food load on their kidneys.

🥫 What If I Don’t Want to Feed Raw?

If raw isn’t the right fit for your family, you still have great options. Here's how we rank feeding methods from most to least ideal:

  1. Raw – Best nutrition, best results

  2. Wet food – Moisture-rich and gentle on kidneys

  3. Dry food – Convenient but should be high quality

That said, it’s perfectly okay to find the balance that works for you. You can:

  • Feed only wet food (especially good for older or picky cats)

  • Combine wet and dry for variety and texture

  • Stick with a high-protein, grain-free dry kibble if needed

Whatever you choose, always focus on:

  • Meat-based protein as the first ingredient

  • No unnecessary fillers or artificial preservatives

  • Adequate moisture through wet/raw food or added water

🍽 What Our Kittens Are Used To

By the time your kitten goes home, they’ll be fully weaned and used to:

  • Eating homemade raw food twice daily

  • Having dry food available during the day

  • Drinking clean, fresh water from a bowl or fountain

They’re also used to trying different textures, so they adjust easily to new routines. We encourage you to stick with what they know during the first few weeks at home, then slowly make any changes from there.
