There’s something magical about welcoming a Ragdoll kitten into your home, but have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes before they reach your arms? At AquaMarine Kittens, every step of the journey—from the moment the kittens are born to the day they’re lovingly placed in their forever home—is filled with dedication, care, and lots of love.
The journey begins with our queens, who are carefully selected for their temperament, health, and beauty. Once a queen is confirmed pregnant, we prepare a quiet, cozy nursery area where she can give birth and care for her kittens in peace. During the first few weeks, the kittens are completely dependent on their mother. We monitor them closely, making sure each one is nursing well and gaining weight steadily. The early days are delicate, but they’re also crucial for the kittens’ long-term health.
By the time the kittens are around three weeks old, their eyes are open, their ears are alert, and they start to wobble around their world. This is when the socialization process begins. We start gently handling them daily so they get used to human touch. They hear the normal sounds of home life—vacuum cleaners, kids playing, even drying machine sounds—which helps desensitize them and builds their confidence. We also begin to introduce soft toys and scratching posts, encouraging natural play and muscle development.
Between weeks five and eight, the kittens become more independent. They begin exploring more, start eating kitten food alongside nursing, and learn how to use the litter box. This is a fun and active stage—full of mischief, play, and cuddles. We use this time to evaluate their personalities and make sure they are developing socially and emotionally. Are they curious? Do they enjoy being held? Are they engaging in healthy play? These details help us match the right kitten with the right family.
When the kittens are around 10–12 weeks old, they receive their vaccinations, are examined by a licensed vet, and are almost ready to go home. Some may stay a little longer if we feel they need more time to develop or adjust. We send every kitten home with a care package, health records, and ongoing support from us. Our goal is to ensure a smooth, happy transition—for both the kitten and their new family.
Raising Ragdoll kittens is a labor of love, and every kitten that leaves our cattery takes a piece of our hearts with them. Knowing that they’re going to homes where they’ll be loved and cherished makes all the effort worth it. If you’re thinking about bringing a Ragdoll into your life, rest assured that behind every fluffy face is a story of care, bonding, and a beautiful beginning.
